Yesterday I had a conversation with a partner in one of the fastest growing new firms in the county… I won’t mention him but if he wants to chime in, he can. He told me that my one of my early Radical books changed his Iife. He took some of the ideas to his old school firm and they said No. He left. Now he’s leadership at one of the fastest growing progressive firms… This may be Radical but I think the lack of next gen leadership talent that old school firms talk about not having to pass the baton too is actually a leadership problem with themselves. I love it when CPA professionals share how their careers and lives have been impacted by my Radical ideas💡 . Please share them. I sold my firm almost 5 years ago. This past week (of course, it’s the 1st week in April) two separate prior business clients reached out to me for business/tax explanations. Both of these prior customers have new CPAs and pay for their business books and taxes. I’m still connected to them via facebook. Yet for whatever reason they didn’t call their new professionals for help. Well, one actually called, got confused and then called me and wrote down what else she needed to ask to solve her issue. They don’t FEEL connected to these new firms. They are paying for solid services yet they are missing a connection where they FEEL their needs are being met. I don’t know the other side of the story but what I do know was all these two individuals wanted was a little conversation, explanation and reassurance. When working with SMBs under 1 million in revenue. The majority of your job is explaining, reassuring and listening. The taxes, the bookkeeping, and it being technically correct are tablestakes. What’s wrong with this picture? I ended the call with if this isn’t working you need to find another firm you can feel connected too. This happens infrequently, but it’s bothering me that with all the firms out there… so many just don’t get what customers need. There was a crazy snowstorm on Tuesday evening and we were without power for over 36 hours. Yesterday, we went to our local cowoking space . This might be considered Radical but I was quite happy with my #oldschool cube. Coworking in urban areas is quite different than in rural areas. Whose idea was it to get rid of the cube?
